Plastic Bank® builds ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities while simultaneously creating positive economic opportunities for those who helped collect it.

Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to our oceans and marine life. The United Nations estimates that every year 8 million tonnes of plastic waste ends up in waterways and if we continue to consume and discard single-use plastics at this rate, by 2050 there could be more plastic in our ocean than fish. Plastic Bank® builds ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities while simultaneously creating positive economic opportunities for those who helped collect it.

CO2 Offset

Burgos Wind Project

The UN-supported Burgos Wind project is helping to turn the tide on this negative environmental impact by providing the Philippines with a source of clean, renewable energy and stable employment for local communities.

Located north of Manila, one of the best areas in the Philippines to generate clean wind energy, it’s one of the largest wind farms in South East Asia, with 50 turbines currently powering the National Grid. It generates 370GWh of electricity and offsets 200,000t of CO2 emissions annually.

The Burgos Wind Project is helping to displace the generation of energy from other sources, such as fossil fuels. It also maintains strict standards on land use, water and waste disposal, as well as noise monitoring, ensuring there is little to no negative impact on the environment around the farm.

Carbon Neutral Shipping

Pachama

Monterra uses Offset, an application that calculates the cost to neutralize our shipping emissions by protecting forests through certified projects and partners such as Pachama.

Pachama leverages data, artificial intelligence, and automation to protect ecosystems, restore forests, and improve carbon markets.

They believe that putting better data in the hands of people who care can create a healthy, living planet.
